A DKIM record (DomainKeys Identified Mail) is a DNS record that serves as an authentication mechanism to assist with protecting both email senders and recipients from forged and phishing email. A DKIM record allows the recipient mail server to check whether an email that is claiming to come from a specific domain, is in fact authorised to be sent using that domain name, through cryptographic authentication.
Mail hosted by Hetzner
If your domain’s email is hosted by Hetzner on a Shared or Managed server, and you would like to make use of DKIM, you may request that our Support Department generate and add a DKIM record to your domain by emailing email@example.com. Once DKIM has been enabled for your domain, email sent via Hetzner’s mail servers will be signed using DKIM automatically.
Self-Managed servers or Mail Sending services
If you are making use of an email sending service (e.g. MailChimp, Mailgun) that requires you to add a DKIM record to your domain’s DNS, you can add this record using our Manage DNS tool in konsoleH.
Add a DKIM record
- Browse to konsoleH and log in at Admin level
- Select or search for a domain name in the Hosting Services tab
- Select Manage Services > Domains > Manage DNS at the top left of the screen
- Select Add Record at the top right of the screen
- Add the following information:
- Hostname: Enter the hostname provided to you
- Record type: TXT
- Destination: Enter the DKIM value provided to you
- Select Add to save your DKIM record
Note: If your domain’s DNS is not hosted by Hetzner, the relevant DKIM record should be amended or added via your current DNS provider. In this case, our Support Department will be able to generate and provide you with a DKIM record which you can forward to your current DNS provider.
